This course will present interactive case-based dental office medical emergency scenarios, reviewing basic physiology for recognition, the equipment and supplies required for the management of an evolving crisis, the decision for EMS transfer, and the continuum of care in hospital. Participants will require a wi-if enabled personal electronic device such as smartphone or tablet to participate in online polling during the case presentations.
Objectives:
At the end of this lecture the participant will be able to;
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal vital signs.
- Choose rescue drugs and understand their delivery.
- Discuss a systematic approach for assessment of the unconscious patient.
- Know protocols of medical emergencies in the dental office.
- Understand initial hospital-based care for patients requiring urgent transfer.
